This week, our interns share a list of 5 things related to their learning, observations, and information about lab or lab research that people outside of the program might not know!1. There's a possible genetic link to autism.
1. most scales that determine body percent fat are inaccurate. 1. Florescence microscopy actually determines a lot of things. For example, the different colors the microscope takes pictures of means different things (blue, red, green). 1. There is a lot of space to work comfortably in a lab. 1.) Working in a lab It takes a great amount of patience. 1. Your work schedule depends on what you're doing in the lab that day. You might come in at the same time every day but leave at a different time from the day before.
1. I'm able to mount the cells on the coverslips. 1. Hemocytometer is a tool that scientists use to count cells in solution under microscope. 1. Every scientist in the lab is super friendly. 1. We are working on a different way to diagnose sepsis using plasma iNOS as new biomarker. When I hear sepsis for the first time I did not know anything about that infection. Yes, it is an infection that many Americas and many other people from different places have died because of it. 1. Not everyone in the lab does experiments 1. extracting DNA is really fun 1. Western blotting is a very long and taxing process takes about two days to see protein bands with chemilumiescense. 1. Scientists are not very social people 1. We use a lamb as a model to replicate a kid with Congenital Heart Disease. 1. Pancreatic Cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death
